Synopsis
Emery No matter how hard I try, I never seem to be able to escape my family’s world. Their madness controls my life, just like insanity consumes my mind. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s real. Sometimes it’s hard to tell who I really am. The person everyone sees? Or the one I keep trapped inside? I wonder which person Ryler sees. Just like I wonder who I can trust. Wonder. Wonder. Wonder. I wonder too much. I wish I could just find a way to escape it all and finally be free.
Ryler I live a double life and sometimes I hate myself for it. Watching Emery fall apart—pretending I don’t care—is killing me inside. I want to tell her the truth, but I also want a new life. Want. Want. Want. I want too much. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what I really desire. I wish I could be free from the confusion, free from this life.

Excerpt
“If you want to dance, dance. There’s no judgment at these things, which makes them pretty awesome.” She smiles, and then threads her fingers through mine. “Okay, let’s dance, then.” I don’t bother mentioning that dancing can be extremely sexy when done under the right circumstances—circumstances that usually include alcohol and sexual tension. At first, Emery is cautious, keeping her distance from me as she rocks her hips to the music. I move with her. I’ve never really been into dancing, but I can rock out to a little garage rock any day. The longer the song goes on, the more into it she gets, until she finally spins around and presses her back against my chest. That’s when the two of us decide to start playing a dangerous game of Want But Can’t Have. A very, very dangerous game that is really fucking tortuous to play yet impossible to give up. Emery starts grinding her hips to the sultry beat of the song. With each movement, her ass brushes against my cock, making me go rock hard. I grip the curves of her hips and my hands unnecessarily slip underneath the bottom of her shirt. My fingers delve into her soft flesh, and I bite back a moan. Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve forgotten just how soft her skin is, how amazing she smells, how incredible she feels against me. She shivers from my touch and presses closer, rolling her hips and driving my body absolutely mad. She repeats the movement over and over again, until finally, I damn near lose my mind. Gripping her waist, I spin her around to face me. “I thought you didn’t know how to dance?”

My Review:

I have always loved AL Jackson's books. I fall in love with her writing and her stories a little more with each one I read! A Stone in the Sea has melted into my heart, my soul. This book is hauntingly beautiful. You can feel the character's deep in your gut, in your heart... their individual fears and heartache, their turmoil, their secrets, their past, their present... their PASSION! The connection between Sebastian and Shea left me breathless. There's this inexplicable pull between them that neither can deny. You can FEEL it. This tether pulling them to one another. And when they finally connect, it's like your heart explodes. I melted with them. You'll find yourself caring so deeply for each of the characters in this book. Sebastian, AKA Baz, is the lead singer and guitar player for the rock band Sunder. How hot is that?! Add to it his gorgeous face and sexy body, with imperfections that make him oh so perfect.... and yeah, just wow! But Baz has had a troubled life, he's done lots of bad while trying to get him and his band where they are today. But he's in desperate need of something good, he just doesn't know it yet. Shea Bentley. Beautiful, sweet, Shea. She doesn't need a man in her life, she's been doing just fine without. She thinks she has enough love and happiness already and doesn't want all the distractions relationships can bring. That is, until she meets Baz. No matter how hard they try to fight it, there's no denying it. They need each other in the most desperate way.

The author took my breath away with her words. Words that had me falling, falling, falling....till I was so wrapped up in every thought and emotion they felt like they were my own. I laughed, I cried, I felt, and I LOVED! Thank you so much AL Jackson, for sharing your amazing talent with all of us! I am dying for the next book, and I know you will not disappoint. But please write fast! .....impatiently waiting.

Excerpt:
I froze when I felt the presence behind me. The song slowly blinked out, the last note lingering in the dense air, before I slowly looked over my shoulder to find Shea. Thoughtful eyes met mine in all their warmth—covering me, pulling me in, dragging me under.
“You play,” she said, a statement rather than a question.
“A little,” I said with a shrug.
She scoffed. “I would hardly classify that as a little.” She shuffled toward me, barefoot, and still wearing that robe. “You have a beautiful voice,” she whispered, and again it took on that reverent tone, like she was recognizing something inside me I didn’t see.
She ran her fingers up the back of my neck and into my hair, and I lifted my head to it and tried not to moan like a girl when she pressed her hot mouth to my Adam’s apple, kissing me there like the temptress she was.
“Such a beautiful, beautiful voice for a beautiful, beautiful man.” The words vibrated against my throat.
“Shea.” My response was hoarse, uttered toward the ceiling as she kissed up and down my throat. With her daughter’s innocent face running like a reel through my mind, I searched inside myself for some kind of resolve. For courage. For a speck of integrity. “I should go. I shouldn’t be here. I shouldn’t have stayed. Shouldn’t have come back.”
Never should have come in the first place.
“You’re exactly where I want you to be,” she coaxed against my skin.
“Shea.” It was a plea for one of us to find reason.
“Please,” she whispered, hands sinking into my shoulders.
Weak.
Weak.
Weak.
That’s what she made me.
Groaning, I gave, because she already had me, and I swiveled a fraction, grabbed her by the hips, and pulled her onto my lap. She was quick to straddle me, a smile taking over her face as I palmed her ass, all those waves of shiny soft hair falling down around us.
“It’s hardly fair, you know,” she said.
“What’s not fair?”
“You…looking the way you do. Then you turn around and have a voice like that? Singing and playing that way?” She pulled back with a grin. “Tell me you don’t play guitar. You know what they say, a man with a guitar automatically becomes ten times sexier than any other guy in the room.”
I curbed a snort.
Didn’t I know it.
And that was exactly the shit I’d come to hate.
“Pair that with this face and this body…” she continued, purely playful.
Any other girl started talking like that and I’d have tossed her from my lap.
Instead, I kneaded my fingers deeper into the flesh of her ass, rocking her into my cock that was at the ready and begging for more.
Shivers rolled through her. “…and I would say you’re irresistible, Sebastian Stone.”
“Is that all you want me for…my body?” I teased, running my hands up her back, eliciting a pleasured whimper from her.
Fingertips played across my chest, and her expression turned vulnerable, that storm collecting speed. “Yeah. I do want this body.” Those fingers fluttered up to my jaw. “And I want this face.”

Eyes not leaving mine, she slowly leaned down and kissed me over my heart. “Most of all, I want this,” she murmured, hiding nothing, laying herself bare.

Octavian’s Undoing (Book One)

Gideon's Promise (Book 2):

My Book Angel Review:
***ARC provided for honest review***

Gideon's Promise By Airicka Phoenix was well worth the wait. This book blew me away. I had a few all nighters clutching my Kindle, my eyes glued to the pages, forever saying "just one more chapter." However, this book is one you'll find yourself not being able to put down.

I adored Gideon in Octivian's Undoing. He was sarcastic, brash, and at times immature, but he kept me laughing. I thought Octavian was swoon worthy but I believe Gideon has taken his brother's place in that category.
The same characters are Back in this book. We do meet a new one, Imogene. She was told by her father to go to Final Judgment for help. She's around 18 years old and a veil creature. Imogene is a sweet, quiet, and kind soul. I can't go much further without spoilers.
We also learn more about the North(Final Judgment's quadrant), East, South, and West; how the treaty came into effect, and what each area is known for. For example, Casters, Harvesters, etc...There's a lot of background in Gideon's life told throughout the story which is very interesting. Reading about the first time Gideon see's and meets Valkyrie, realizing who she is, and the many lengths he'll go through to protect her.

Valkyrie is a true force to be reckoned with. She's a warrior, tough, and doesn't take any crap from anyone. The dialogue between her and Gideon is hilarious. Gideon will say and do anything do get under her skin. Yet, there's a soft side to him that we see in this book-a sweet, beautiful side, that is uncovered the more we get to know his character.
This book is packed with action, tons of twists and turns, and a lot of surprises. Ms. Phoenix didn't disappoint on the stem factor either!

I would definitely recommend Gideon's Promise to anyone who has read the 1st book. Airicka Phoenix did a phenomenal job writing this novel. I look forward to the 3rd book in the series, which is about Maxwell.

BLISSFUL VALENTINE EXCERPT :

He stops and meets my gaze, then bends down and grabs a mound of snow, packing into a tight ball. He takes a step back and winds his arm, throwing the snowball straight and fast. It smacks against the metal sign on the far end of the small pond near a cluster of benches, breaking off into a multitude of pieces.
He wipes his hands off on his pants. “Give it a try.”
I shake my head. “No way, I throw like a girl.”
His picks up a mound of snow and packs it together, forming a perfect sphere. He hands me the snowball and stands behind me, pressing his body against mine. My heartbeats thump against my chest, causing a surge of adrenaline to rush through my veins. I tremble, holding the snowball in my right hand. At least I can blame the cold for my shaky arm. He runs his hand down to my wrist and pulls it back, up toward my shoulder.
He rests his head on my shoulder and talks softly into my ear. “Pull your arm back to here and step forward at the same time you throw.” He moves to the side.
Goosebumps form on my neck from his warm breath gliding against my cool skin. My stomach flutters. Here goes nothing. I stare at the metal No Parking sign and pull my arm back, throwing the snowball as I step forward. Tiny fragments of snow fly through the air. A direct hit.
I clap my hands and bounce up and down on my toes. “Holy crap, I actually did it. I didn’t think I could hit the broad side of a barn.” Dean comes over and raises his hand to give me a high five. I lunge forward and pull him into a hug, before I realize what I’m doing. My chest tightens and heat creeps across my cheek.
He wraps his arms around my waist and presses his body against mine. I step back and ease away, dropping my arms to my sides. “We better head back, I’ve still got lots of physics studying to do if I plan on passing the semester.”
He rubs the back of his neck and nods.
I slide my frozen hands into my pockets and hold them in tight fists. Note to self: when I think I’m finished embarrassing myself I’m usually wrong.
The perfect untouched blanket of snow moves into an array of chaos as we turn the corner to my apartment. My heart beats faster with each step I take forward. This walk is taking forever. If I don’t get away from Dean soon, I may end up doing something else I shouldn’t. I mean, we’re just friends. I take a deep breath and slowly exhale as we approach my driveway.
I dig in my purse and pull out my keys. “Thanks for my victory celebration.”
He places his hand in the small of my back on our way toward my steps. “First of many.” His hand moves to my waist.
Summersaults take over my stomach. I step onto the first step. My boot slips along the rim of the concrete edge covered in a thin layer of ice and instantly it knocks me off balance. My hands flail through the air, desperately trying to grab onto anything.
Dean jumps into action, catching me before my head smacks against the hard sidewalk. I grab onto his sculpted bicep and pull myself to my feet.
Fire burns through my cheeks, which are no doubt fire-engine red. I drop my chin to my chest and hunch my shoulders. He lifts my chin and gazes into my eyes. My heart pounds against the walls of my chest. Electric shockwaves flows through my veins. He leans in closer. My lips part and lava flows through my body. He tucks a stray strand of hair behind my ear. “I knew you’d fall for me sooner or later.” He places a soft kiss on my cheek and takes a step back, turning and walking away.

About the Paranorm World

Two hundred years ago the world was very different. It was an age of technology and prosperity. There were more than 7 billion people on earth. Magic and paranormal beings were relegated to fiction and myth. In the Technological Age Year 2012 the Earth experienced a natural phenomena which we now call the Cataclysm. There was a polar shift in which the earth’s natural magnetic poles shifted. The polar shift caused a series of natural disasters that changed the landscape of the world. Earthquakes, hurricanes, blizzards, tornadoes, and tsunamis pounded the world leaving devastation and death. Whole cities and even states were leveled by earthquakes and swallowed by the sea. The melting of the polar ice caps caused flooding. Society collapsed. Major cities were leveled by disasters, power plants and refineries were destroyed. The basic infrastructure of the country disintegrated. There was no longer any electricity, public water systems no longer worked. Food supplies dwindled as there was no longer enough gasoline for shipping. At first the government tried to keep order with police and military. But as more and more disasters destroyed major cities and even the capital of the United States, the government crumbled. With no government to pay or command them there was no longer an army or even police forces. Riots abounded, destroying as much property as the disasters. Disasters killed more than half the population in just a few years. Over the next five decades famine, disease, and war killed millions more. Humanities only chance for survival was reliant on those who had long ago become outcasts and myths. Humans who through natural evolution, genetics, or viruses had preternatural abilities. In the ruins of the old civilization, a new one rose up. One that blends technology and magic. One where paranormal beings like mages, vampires and werebeasts live side by side with normal humans.

Excerpt

“This wasn’t done by a necromancer.” Ian’s voice was tight. “No?” Fiona’s voice was filled with barely veiled sarcasm. “I realize you are skeptical. You believe in what you can see or feel. That because you cannot see or feel the energy of spirits, you don’t believe in them.” “No, that is not true. I’m a mage, Ian. My power lies in feeling energy around me, even energy others cannot feel or manipulate. I believe the energy of the dead remains, and can communicate with mages with certain powers—necromancers. “What I do not believe is that all who say they are necromancers, actually are. What I don’t believe is that those who are necromancers always tell the truth. I think they prey on people who are vulnerable and willing to pay anything for a connection with a dead loved one. I think that practice has been going on for hundreds of years… and it’s not likely to stop.” “After all the years you’ve spent working with me and other necromancers, why do you still have such a poor view of us? I can’t think of any case that would cause you to feel that way.” “I hate necromancers because one killed my mother.” She’d said the words calmly, as if she were saying, “The sky is blue.” A calm, factual statement. Her face was devoid of emotion. His mind spun, trying to remember what he knew about Malaina Hernandez and her death. He’d made it his business to know the professional background of any Blade or City Guard he worked with, though his interest in Fiona’s history had been a bit more personal. He had full security clearance within the Blades and had read her mother’s file long ago. From what he remembered, Malaina had been killed taking down a smuggling and slaving gang. The same gang killed her husband nearly seven years before, only Malaina had managed to take down the ringleaders before she’d died. Ian didn’t remember the mention of a necromancer in the files. “A necromancer killed your mother?” He did his best to keep his voice casual. He wasn’t sure how to approach the subject, and was a little surprised she had. “Well, she wasn’t really a necromancer, and she didn’t shove the sword through my mother’s body, but for all intents and purposes, she killed her. She, and others like her, stole my mother’s life long before the blood pumped out onto the ground.” Her voice was cold, hard steel. Though her voice was steady and her face blank, he could see the sorrow of old grief in her eyes. Fiona was not the sharing type, and other than last night in his bed, it was the first time she’d allowed him a glimpse of real emotion. If he pried, she could shut down. If Ian had a weakness, other than his all-consuming desire for Fiona that had not yet been slaked, it was his unfailing curiosity. His curious nature was what drew him to books and learning. It was even what made him teach, because even as he taught his students, he was constantly learning from them. That natural eagerness to know the unknown paired with his feelings for Fiona created a lethal combination. He wanted to know everything about her, what made her happy, what made her sad, all the ways to make her gasp and moan. He knew as much about her past as any outsider could, but that was all academic. Facts. Even though he lived his life by facts, he knew that there was so much more to life, more to knowing Fiona. Right now, something about her mother’s death, that had nothing to do with the public facts, was upsetting her. His need to know more worked against him, until he had to ask her about it. Though he knew he shouldn’t, he couldn’t help himself. “How did a necromancer cause your mother to die?” He wasn’t sure how else to put the question, but once it was said, he knew it had been the wrong thing to say. Her eyes flashed with anger. “Look, Barroes, just because we are sleeping together doesn’t mean you get to stick your nose into my life and ask about things that are none of your business.”

June is a geek girl, fat chick, unrepentant romantic and bestselling romance author. While she writes in various subgenres all of her stories will always have one thing in common: Romance. Lots and lots of romance. June writes full time and is both independently and traditionally published. In her role as an indie author she is also a PR person, web designer, cover designer, graphic designer, marketing executive, small business owner, and all around June of All Trades. When not working she can be found making jewelry, reading, cooking, or watching geeky movies with her husband and snuggling with her 5...YES 5, furbabies. Notice cleaning wasn't listed... June Stevens is the pen name for DJ Westerfield.
