I know all too well how my customers gawk and I don’t want anyone’s lustful eyes on you.” I think my mouth is hanging even wider if that’s possible.

He wants me to go out like this, covered in his signature, so that no one will look at me. Ok, he’s totally lost it, I’m not going anywhere like this. “Uh uh, no way, I can’t go out all marked up like this!” “Lay down Mia I want to get a few more shots.”

Light a Candle For the Beast

A New Short Story By, Echo Shea



All she wanted was a rose… These are the words on my sister’s grave. Her sadness, her obsession, forever a reminder I didn’t--couldn’t save her. 
I’m not vindictive or cruel. I’m simply as the river--my memory is winding and my reach is long. I watched him steal her beauty, her essence. Watched him become a beast. He thought he'd get away with it, thought he'd go free.
I lay a rose upon my sister's grave.


I follow the guard through dark caverns that smell of sulfur and musk, with spider-like things scurrying across the floor. Some glow in the dark with bioluminescence, neon as bar signs,
with the snapping jaws and the dripping fangs of nightmares.
My chest burns as we draw closer to his cell. Surely, no one could ever do something so horrible as to end up here. There couldn’t be something so bad this close to Elysium, the place of happy souls. 
I can’t see him through the bars, but I can hear chuffing breaths, his snorts and snarls, as if he sleeps.
Anger burns through me. How can he sleep? I slam my hand against the bars. “Wake up, Andrew,” I sing in a none too nice, not so sane voice. “I’ve come to end your suffering.” The words drip like acid from my lips.


My Review:
This book put a wonderful spin on the Beauty and the Beast! I love how the author incorporated one of my favorite fairy tales and turned it into a new age story with a twist. Echo Shea has a great way with words and an eye for detail. She kept the story flowing seamlessly while keeping the reader intrigued and excited. She brings out the emotions in her characters wonderfully. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants a quick read that'll keep you clinging on from beginning to end. Excellent job Ms, Shea!
